When there is a twenty year gap between albums I feel a bit nervous. It seems that when it takes a band that long to do an album the odds it being a load of hyper pretentious crap, a la GNR, is extremely high. Still I held out hope for Seance's Awakening of the Gods. Taking into consideration the wonderful things that the band has pulled off with other projects like Witchery and Opeth. Awakening of the Gods will not disappoint long time Seance fans. They've added a fast paced thrash elements to their sound that make the album darker and harder. Showing their fan-fucking-tastic skills and versatility. I got to sit down with Seance to pick their brains about the long gap between albums and all manner of mayhem.

There was a big gap between Awakenings of the Gods and you last album. Why was there such a long time between albums?

Yes it really was. I think we all were satisfied with our other bands. We have released a lot of albums between the Seance albums. Maybe you could say the birth of Witchery made Seance fall into some sort of a long slumber. We were still active but not very often. We also decided to record and do everything ourselves so we bought a lot of studio equipment and started to record without knowing nothing or very little about it. It took us a while to figure it out. Mique our drummer became the main engineer and recorded a band/album before us, just to learn about the process. We had some, who is going to write the music/lyrics issues as well. We lost our main composer Patrik Jensen so there had to be a new composer. Jensen left the band to start The Haunted back in 97 and took the new Seance songs with him. Those songs became Haunted songs on their first album. I also have to say that the lack of touring with Witchery made us focus more on the next Seance album. It has always been very difficult to schedule tours for Witchery because of the busy life the rock stars (Sharlee D angelo and Patrik Jensen) has. It became even harder then Martin Axe joined Opeth or should I say impossible. But you never know it can change over a night.

You've been a part of the extreme metal scene for a long time, how have you think its changed over the years?

The band Seance yes, but not we as musicians. The big change is that there are a lot of bands out there now days that are extremely good at what they are doing. You as a listener could be a lot more fastidious of your choice of bands you want to listen too.

Awakening of the Gods is a bit heavier than your last album and it takes influence from a lot of other genre's. How did you approach writing this album?

We started out with more blackish sounding riffs but after while it fell more into the Death/thrash style. I know the album sounds different from the older ones but still you really can here it sounds Seance. We lost our main composer so of course it cant be the same.

I don't know if you could call it more heavier. It is more thrash elements in it now. Maybe it is more fast forward thinking blended to the old technical thinking.

Would you say the themes to your music has changed over the years?

No, It is still Death metal as we want it. Maybe we should done something different but if you gonna do that you could start another band instead.

Are there any plans to tour with this album?

No plans yet. We got some cool offers but some of us has difficulties to get the time off from there daily duties. So probably not any longer tours. But you never know what happens.

What do you see next on the horizon for Seance?

I think we waiting for a sum up on this album to see if we have what it takes to do another album. May be it will take us 20 years to do the next one. Hee Hee

Anything you want to add before we wrap?

Yes, we are very glad for all the attention we got from every one. For sure, there are a lot of people that are into Death metal out there. Thanks
