There are times where the world of synth pop can get a little bit boring. With everything being horrid sadness draped in poppy beats. But The Thought Criminals take things up a notch with Die Young Stay Pretty. Its all the happiness ofsynth pop mixed with some of the more twisted shit that makes industrial awesome. All of the woe is me bullshit is replaced with witty quips and perverse evil. With beats that are like crack to the ear they are so addictive. Their preoccupation with sluts, guns and serial killers is a bit disturbing, but at the same time its one of the things that makes the album positivelydelish . The way they were able to blend almost an entire Manson interview in Papa's Got A Brand New Gun is excellent. Manson is one of those killers who has be sampled to death. But because they use a lot more of the interview than his greatest hits it adds a little extra bit of spice to the whole thing. The strange thing about using the longer interview though is that even though they give a pretty good description of  the songs mad man overall Icouldn't help but superimpose Manson's face on the disgruntled worker walking in to shit shoot up the place. The beats are all tight as fuck using an arsenal of synths and programs to create fresh and original tunes instead on relying on standard dace floor fare. Still it isn't just the beats that make this such a good album. Its the way they manage to take horrible things like suicide bombings and workplace violence, and make them fun. The first time I heard Suicide Bomber the lyric "she misunderstood when I said I like Bush" made me laugh so hard I almost spit soda out of my nose. They even mange to take something as horrid as date rape and make it seem like it may not be all that bad with the right person. And anyone who can make me smile and dance while the talk about the worlds ills is alright in my book. The remixes of Minimal and Suicide Bomber are almost a bit better than the original. As they slow things down to a demented kind of sexy designed for those of us who like our evil as slow like asadistic dentists drill. From beginning to end this album is thoroughly refreshing.
