Seize Constant Fight Alfa-Matrix 3.0 I went into Constant Fight ready to blow it off. Nothing more than just light weight synthpop with an air of darkness to it. The kind of thing that blends behind you as seamlessly as wall paper. After a few listens though it began to elevate itself from the realm of bland synthpop to something that became an enjoyable piece of background noise. While the singer doesn't have a great range, but her smooth raspy delivery gives the album an feeling of seductive mystery. A bit of texture to what comes dangerously close to losing you with tedium. Seize doesn't rely on samples or heavy guitar riffs to create their sound. They work at stringing together fairly interesting electronic beats. While they are able to stay away from a lot of the cliche sounds, they use the same four of five beats a bit too often. After awhile things all begin to blend and sound the same. That being said they are a bit better than most of the other electronic bands out there and over time I think they will begin to develop a more unique voice that will really grasp the ears.

Angelspit Hedious and Perfect Metroplis 3.5 Hideous and Perfect is a fun album. Even if it is a bit bitter from time to time. One minute they are spewing venom about that evils of capitalism. Raling against our collective obession with comsurism that is eating a hole inside of soicety. By replacing art and creativity with the need for things. The next minute they sound like whiney brats. Pissed off that their best friend has decided to settle down and now they have no one to party with. With tracks like Cold Hard Cash and Fuck the Revoultion its easy to get sucked into their funky distrotion driven rage. And they are surprisingly on topic with what a lot of people may be thinking as everyone seems to be struggling with cash in some form or another. They are the songs that let you lose yourself in rage on the dance floor without turning into a grumpy old man. Still things like Channel Hell are laughable. They are going for more edgey anger but it comes off whiney and sad. Screaming about youth lost to conservative ideals just makes it sound like they need to just make new friends instead of whining about the old ones. But despite their whiney bitch moments Angelspit has put together an album that is ecletic funky and danceable without being pulled in the cliches of the Industrial scene. They dont use samples from the obvious places like movies or news clips. And do a lot of interesting work with layering and distorting the vox throughout the album. making the whole thing sound lush and textured. A solid effort overall thats good for getting you in touch with your inner angst. |

Healayn Flowers Spacefloor Romance Alfa-Matrix 3.0 If you just want to loose yourself in dance music that doesn't make you think too hard you could do a lot worse than Halayn Flowers' Spacefloor Romance. Every song of the 8 track Ep is designed to make you get in touch with your inner Goth and dust off those old shadow moves. The album is darkly up beat and while its definitely something you can groove to. They thankfully shy away from the standardelectronic dance beats. As always the vox for Healayn Flowers leave me feeling a little mixed. The girl has decent pipes, but they are hyper produced to the point of almost being robotic. They never seem to be able to strike a good balance between the electronic and the organic. Leaving the electronic to over power thevox and the lyrics. Still if you just want something to shake your ass to, I would much rather listen to Spacefloor Romance that the other dance shit out there.

Star Industry Black Angel White Devil Alfa-Matrix 3.0 Its been awhile since I've taken a listen to anything on the Electronic side of things. And after listening to Black Angel White Devil, I remember why I took a break from the Electronic music. I found myself sucked into a sea of same-ness. Only occasionally broken up by a grinding guitar riffs. Or a soaring synth line. But even then all of the riffs begin to blend into one another. The same can be said for the vox. Done in the monotone tenor that Dave Gohan made famous nearly thirty years ago, but lacking his passion. Not to mention its a style that been done a million times over and is no longer impressive. Over done to the point where its become cliche. At no point on the album is this clearer than their cover ofDM's Enjoy the Silence. Instead of adding something to the song, to make it their own. Star Industry opts to just recreate the song note for note. Making the whole thing a parody and just a bad cover of a great song. They also work some bad cover moments but placing thelyircs for the Eurythmics Here Comes the Rain Again into their Sodium Haze. One they simply don't have the vocal character to match anything done by AnneLennox and its painful to watch them try. And trying to mesh the iconic chorus from that song into their original music feels forced and clumsy. Then to add insult to injury it doesn't even make you want to dance! For all of the places where Electronic music has failed us as of late, its one saving grace is that you can always wiggle to it. But when a band cant even do that, nothing good can come of it.
